April Helgaas is a Grant Coordinator with the College of Agriculture at North Dakota State University. She coordinates grants for the AgEcon & Agribusiness and Animal Sciences departments.
Her work focuses on assisting researchers with all aspects of the grant application process. Pre-proposal work consists of researching and sharing grant opportunities, reviewing all grant opportunity requirements, and fielding questions pertaining to funding opportunities. During the proposal process, she assists with completion and compilation of all required application documents including budget documentation, reviews applications for adherence to both sponsor and NDSU guidelines, and submits applications on behalf of researchers. Post-award services include submitting no-cost extensions, budget revisions, key personnel changes and disposition of grant forms.
Prior to her Grant Coordinator role, she worked in several different roles at NDSU including Accounting Specialist (Accounting Service Center), Office Manager (Department of Apparel Design and Hospitality Management), and Information Specialist (Office of Admission). April has served as a NDSU Staff Senator for nine years including serving on the Executive Board for the past seven years. She is currently the Treasurer of NDSU Staff Senate. She also served two terms as a NDUS State Staff Senator and was NDUS State Staff Senate President in 2021-2022.
